The Crown of the Eternal Emperor

STORY

Background:

The revolution that killed the Eternal Empire ended with the murder of its Emperor. Only a few seconds after, however, the entire population disappeared from the planet.

Approximately a hundred years later, the Federation sent an expedition to Juno in an attempt to figure out what happened.

Chapter One:

A twenty-two-year-old woman paced nervously in the small ship, much to the dismay of her captain and the rest of the crew. Why was everyone else so calm? They're visiting Juno, after all. The world was empty, and nobody knew what caused it.

Eventually, she's forced to sit in her seat as the ship begins to land on the planet's surface. They chose a large clearing surrounded by dense forest, which had grown taller and thicker over the years without human presence.

Near to their landing spot are the ruins of a large palace, which had belonged to the Emperor. A hundred years changes a building, though. The outside is now covered in dust, vines, and leaves.

This is their destination.

The captain leads the seven agents from the ship to the ruins, though they notice a slew of corpses lying on the ground. All humans, of course, and like the building, they're covered in dust.

The crew ignores them, though. They're not the mission.

They make their way to the ruins, and attempt to open the door. The door seems to be stuck, though. Two of the agents prepare a spell to force it open, but as soon as it opens, they're gone.

The captain, confused, leads the rest of the crew inside. And the woman takes out a camera and begins taking pictures.

The crew makes their way through the palace and into the throne room. The palace looks untouched on the inside; the dust and vines are only on the outside.

As they enter the throne room, they notice a broken crown sitting on the floor. The captain picks it up, and just like the two who opened the door, is gone in the blink of an eye.

The crown falls to the ground, and while the woman is taking pictures, the remaining three agents prepare a spell to destroy the crown.

Instead of working, though, the agents are destroyed, bolts of the magic they cast entering their own hearts.

Now, only the woman remains in the room. She puts the camera down and grabs a notebook and a pen. She begins scribbling runes and symbols on the paper, placing them around the room.

She activates the spell, but the crown remains, and the papers that she wrote fly towards her heart. The woman closes her eyes. Instead of simply killing her, though, they merge with her body.

Cyrena Eishold opens her eyes, and discovers that she survived. Now made of the paper she used to cast the spell, she runs, screaming, out of the room and out of the palace.

Cyrena Eishold is no longer associated with Vesta or the Federation. She instead lives alone on Juno's only moon, having spent the last hundred years of her life collecting spells and knowledge from the ruins of the Eternal Empire, and various other locations around the universe, in an attempt to reverse this curse.

Chapter Two:

Approximately a hundred years later, a small ship carrying only one individual arrives on Juno, near the palace. Having not been on the world for now two hundred years, the woman walks through the ruins of the palace grounds.

This woman is Kiyo Luchis, the architect of the revolution. She carries a golden sword, which begins to glow as she walks towards the palace itself.

She enters the palace, and the closer she gets to the throne room, the more her sword glows.

The broken crown rests on the floor of the throne room, having been untouched for the century since Cyrena's failed attempt to destroy it. Kiyo approaches the crown, and picks it up. In her other hand, she grabs the sword, magically reshaping it into the missing piece of the crown.

She places the missing piece into its position, and the crown glows. Kiyo looks around, closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath before putting the restored crown on her head.

Her eyes glow a pure golden color, and she seems to float slightly above the ground. With a simple hand gesture, a marble pedestal raises from the ground, with a spot to place the crown. She takes the crown off and places it on the pedestal, before fainting.

Chapter Three (Epilogue):

When Kiyo wakes up, she finds herself in a small bedroom that looks like it hasn't been used in years. She gets up and opens the door, leading to a small hallway.

The hallway is littered with papers and books, and a small desk with a notebook and pen. She opens the notebook, and begins to read.

Only a few minutes later, a voice calls out to her: "Who in Her name are you?"
